“Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference”

Jasmin Seijbel, MSc MA

Jasmin Seijbelis a PhD candidate and lecturer at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC), Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her research focuses on the intersections of sports, popular culture, and social inequalities. In her doctoral project, she examines football-related antisemitic discourse in both online and offline contexts, with particular attention to how such narratives circulate within stadiums and digital communities.

Beyond discourse analysis, her work engages with educational initiatives aimed at preventing discrimination and antisemitism in football culture. In this capacity, she collaborates closely with key stakeholders in the field, including the Fancoach project of Feyenoord and the Anne Frank House. Her doctoral research is supervised by Prof. dr. Gijsbert Oonk, Prof. dr. Jacco van Sterkenburg, and Prof. dr. Maria Grever.

Jasmin holds two Master’s degrees: one in Global History and International Relations from Erasmus University Rotterdam, and another in Cultural Anthropology and Development Studies from KU Leuven. For her Anthropology master's thesis, she conducted ethnographic fieldwork in South-West Uganda, exploring the social, cultural, and political transformations that accompany rural-to-urban migration.

Her broader academic interests include the sociology of sport, memory and identity studies, and the role of cultural narratives in shaping inclusive and exclusive practices within society. In addition to her academic research, she has also contributed to public debates on inequality in sport. Together with Siri Driessen, she co-authored an op-ed on sexism in football, published in De Volkskrant (2023): “Geen huldiging voor vrouwenteam maakt seizoen Ajax pas echt teleurstellend.”
